Welcome, Friend. I am an author with New Degree Press, a disability advocate and future Speech Language Pathologist. This is my freshman novel, “The Color Orange.” I wrote this novel in the beginning of 2021 because I felt that there was something missing in the disability narrative genre. I wanted to write a coming of age story about children with all different types of abilities because it is important to challenge the stories we have been told growing up. I have purposefully written a book about a group of individuals who are widely different in their diagnoses, and most importantly, their personalities. Additionally, as a neurotypical and able-bodied woman, I want my commentary not to define or overshadow the work done in the disability community but rather to highlight ignorance as an ally. This story is built around autism and follows the perspective of one boy among millions who share a spectrum diagnosis. This book is by no means an attempt to define or shape the autism
